Hi! I don’t know how you got here, or why you’re choosing to stick around and read this, but I’m glad that you have! I’m Nia Mahmud, I’m from Florida, and I love writing. Yeah, that’s all. There’s nothing else in this ‘About Me’ so, bye! Joking! That’s one thing ‘about me,’ I love making jokes, or more accurately, puns. So what else is there about me to tell? Well, I love reading, I always have. From my love of reading sprouted a love of writing, and from my love of writing emerged this blog you’re on right now! Although I love reading fantasy and sci-fi, I mostly write realistic young adult fiction. Don’t think I’m super talented or anything, though, I’m still working on being a better writer and becoming more dedicated to writing. I am by no means an expert, I’m just trying to learn the ropes of my own writing, and I hope you’ll join me!

I also, as most who know me know, love speech and debate. I compete in Congressional Debate, which is basically a debate event that emulates that of an actual congress session. I’ve been competing in speech and debate for a while, and I love it! But, where do I fall compared to the other competitors? Well, let’s just say I’m learning the ropes just like I am with writing.

Besides writing and debate, the two things I’m most passionate about, I’m a many other things. I’m a sister to my brother Adam. I’m a daughter to my two amazing parents. I’m a friend, and, I hope, a good one. I’m a cousin to many, many more than I can count; including two in Puerto Rico I miss very much. I ‘m a granddaughter and a great-granddaughter. I’m a dog owner to the most amazing dog in the world, a Shih-Tzu named Bella. More than these things, I’m dedicated. I’m a writer and debater. Most of all, I can be considered cheesy and cringy, which, this blog will be a lot of both. It sounds especially cheesy, I’ve found, when you read it out loud in a high pitched voice. So please, don’t do that. Welcome to Writer’s Refuge, where I’ll try to help you on your writing journey as I navigate through my own, a place of peace and solitude, which is what I find in my writing. Somewhere I can be myself without restrictions or limitations. That’s what writing is to me, even if it may seem cheesy. Welcome, to my blog.
