Hi! I don’t know how you got here, or why you’re choosing to stick around and read this, but I’m glad that you have! I’m Nia Mahmud, a 15 year old writer. I love reading, I always have. From my love of reading sprouted a love of writing, and from my love of writing emerged this blog you’re on right now! Although I love reading fantasy and sci-fi, I mostly write contemporary young adult fiction, and more recently, poetry. I’m still working on being a better writer and becoming more dedicated to writing. I am by no means an expert, I’m just trying to learn the ropes of my own writing, and I hope you’ll join me!
I post writing tips- ranging from plot and outlining to little details. I post personal narratives that I nearly always manage to tie back to writing in some way. I post stories I’ve written and how the writing process is going for me. I’ve also done interviews with published authors about their writing journey and any tips they have. I explore what it means to be a young author, and how capable you truly are, regardless of age. I talk about different ways to view and think about writing. I talk about other books I enjoy, and what makes them so great.

I also, as most who know me know, love speech and debate. I compete in Congressional Debate, which is basically a debate event that emulates that of an actual congress session. I’ve been competing in speech and debate for a while, and I love it! Just like in writing, I still feel like I’m only learning the ropes.
I’ve been blogging for about a year now, and I’ve learned so much along the way- not only about blogging but about writing.
Besides writing and debate, the two things I’m most passionate about, I’m a many other things. Most of all, I can be considered cheesy and cringy, which, this blog will be a lot of both. Welcome to Writer’s Refuge, where I’ll try to help you on your writing journey as I navigate through my own, a place of peace and solitude, which is what I find in my writing. Somewhere I can be myself without restrictions or limitations. That’s what writing is to me, even if it may seem cheesy. Welcome, to my blog.
